Hello! I'm a second year veterinary student at the University of Pennsylvania and this summer I will be heading west! I'm going to Lower Brule and Pine Ridge, SD to give free veterinary care to the community and their four legged family members.
It's going to be a hard two weeks, with long hours and little sleep but I'm really excited to meet the people and their pets. I need your help though! Your donation will give me the tools to provide veterinary care to underserved communties. A donation of $10 covers the vaccination for one dog. With $35 we can provide life-saving treatment for a puppy with parvovirus. Just $100 covers complete wellness care, including spay/neuter surgery for a dog or cat.
Finally, I'm really grateful for the oppurtunity to further my education while helping others at the same time and I can't wait to get over there!

In June of 2015, HSVMA-RAVS staff and volunteers will travel to central and southeast South Dakota for 10 days of field clinics on the Lower Brule and Pine Ridge Lakota Sioux Reservations. The team of 30 veterinary students and 15 professional volunteers will offer free spay/ neuter and wellness care to more than 1,000 animals in this remote community where regular veterinary care is not available.
In addition to wellness services, RAVS’ volunteers will care for animals with a wide range of health concerns including puppies suffering from parvovirus and distemper infections and older animals suffering from multiple infirmities. We will help animals with old traumatic injuries and festering wounds, returning them to a happier life with their family. While providing this care, our volunteers and staff will be educating the family on animal care and public health, helping to make the community a better place for the animals and the people of Lower Brule and Pine Ridge.
