This June, I will be working with a team of 30 veterinary students and 15 professional volunteers in South Dakota for a two week field clinic. We will be providing free veterinary care for the Lower Brule and Pine Ridge Lakota Sioux reservations, communities where regular veterinary medical care is not available.
On my trip I'll be performing wellness exams, giving vaccinations and medications, deworming, monitoring anesthesia, and spaying and neutering animals. At the same time, the students and other volunteers will be providing education to the communities about animal care and public health, with the goal of making the communities healthier for the people and animals.
The money I'm raising for this trip supports the free medical services that the animals will receive. Since many of these animals never receive medical attention, the care we provide is literally lifesaving, as many prevented diseases would kill animals before they reach adulthood. Please consider donating if you can. I assure you that the money will go towards the animals, rather than to me. I will be in a sleeping bag on the floor.
Thank you for your help!
