Welcome to my 2013 Online Donor Drive page!
As many of you know, I'm involved with iMentor, a mentoring program for New York City high school students. iMentor provides students in low-income communities with mentors who are dedicated to helping them succeed in college and beyond.
I’ve had the great opportunity to be matched with a number of great mentees. Jamal is one of these guys (it's him in the photo next to me). Like many kids at his school, Jamal has a large family but he grew up without many strong male role-models. When we met, he assumed he would drop out of high school to look for work. Two years on, Jamal is now at a Community College, enjoying it and has a much different outlook on his future. Jamal himself is now a role-model for his younger siblings. I'm not saying that me personally, or even iMentor, was the only factor in this growth - but I think it's fair to say we played a part!
Please help iMentor by supporting my page today. Every contribution will help support more mentor-mentee pairs like Jamal and me. I also contribute my time by participating on iMentor's Young Executive Board - so I'm not asking for something that I'm not committed to myself.
About iMentor’s Online Donor Drive
The iMentor Online Donor Drive team is a dedicated group of mentors and supporters who join forces to fundraise for iMentor. The proceeds of this annual campaign help fund thousands of mentoring relationships that are empowering students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
It costs $1,000 a year to support a pair and ensure they have access to quality programming and resources. So whether you contribute $10 or $1,000, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals who are making a lasting investment in the life of a high school student.
iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
Students and mentors work one-on-one through iMentor’s online and in-person curriculum to navigate the college application process and build critical skills linked to college success. In New York City, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the school receives a mentor.
Since 1999, iMentor has connected 11,000 students in New York City with mentors, and will match more than 2,400 mentor-mentee pairs this year. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to nonprofits nationwide to help them run effective mentoring programs in the iMentor model.
