BENEFITING: The University of Kansas Cancer Center
ORGANIZER: The University of Kansas Cancer Center
EVENT: 4TH ANNUAL TOUR DE BBQ
EVENT DATE: Oct 06, 2012
Four years ago a small group of people with a big vision got together to create a cycling event. This wasn't just going to be any cycling event though. This event wouldn't just be about the miles logged. It wouldn't just be about enjoying the nice weather or the scenic views of Kansas City. It wouldn't just be about spending time with friends who enjoyed the sport.
This event was, and continues to be, about making a difference in the fight against cancer in our own backyard. Each year the event has grown bigger and better. We have donated thousands of dollars to the University of Kansas Cancer Center, LIVESTRONG, and other local charities.
In 2012 all funds donated to the LS Army of Kansas City/Tour de BBQ will benefit the University of Kansas Cancer Center and Children's Mercy Hospital, as well as a third party (local charity) to be determined following grant application review.
Why am I involved with the Tour de BBQ?
I continue to support this cause for my Grandma Jane Gandy, my uncles Bobby, Danny, and Bubba Miller and my aunts Barbara and B Miller, and for many other friends and family members who have lost their fight against cancer. I support this cause for my family and friends who have survived their struggle with the disease so new and better programs can be initiated to help survivors.
Finally, I support this cause for my daughter. Statistics show that one in three women today will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. I support this cause to help to find a way to change those stats so that as she grows older she can live in a world where she won't have to wondering who will be the next family or friend to have this terrible disease.
