Welcome to my 2013 Online Donor Drive page!
As many of you know, I am a mentor to a New York City high school student through iMentor. iMentor partners with public high schools to provide students in low-income communities with mentors who are dedicated to helping them succeed in college and beyond. As someone new to the program, I can’t speak highly enough of the iMentor program and those that work for the organization. The program’s mentor-mentee relationships are predicated on weekly email interactions and monthly events structured to build critical skills linked to college success.
I’ve had the great opportunity to be matched with Gabriel Mendez for the past 4 months. Gabriel, a freshman at Manhattan Bridges High School, loves soccer, video games, and wants to become an architect (but only after an illustrious soccer career). Getting to know him has been a truly rewarding experience and I am proud to have this opportunity to let you into my world as a mentor. So far, Gabriel and I have been working on time management and social skills. We have discussed the best way to manage homework and extracurricular activities as well as expanding his social comfort zone (i.e., participating in class and talking to girls). Gabriel is a smart, thoughtful teenager that is truly dedicated to doing all the right things to be successful. I am excited to see all that Gabriel will accomplish over the next four years.
Please help iMentor and students like Gabriel by supporting my page today.
About iMentor’s Online Donor Drive
The iMentor Online Donor Drive team is a dedicated group of mentors and supporters who join forces to fundraise for iMentor. The proceeds of this annual campaign help fund thousands of mentoring relationships that are empowering students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
It costs $1,000 a year to support a pair and ensure they have access to quality programming and resources. So whether you are able to contribute $10, $100 or $1,000, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals who are making a lasting investment in the life of a high school student.
iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
Students and mentors work one-on-one through iMentor’s online and in-person curriculum to navigate the college application process and build critical skills linked to college success. In New York City, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the school receives a mentor.
Since 1999, iMentor has connected 11,000 students in New York City with mentors, and will match more than 2,400 mentor-mentee pairs this year. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to nonprofits nationwide to help them run effective mentoring programs in the iMentor model.
