If you watch this little girl do gymnastics, play soccer or run around on the playground at New City School, you would never believe her story... Margaret was born with cataracts and had her first of many surgeries when she was just 2 weeks old. Unfortunately, when she was 9 months old, Margaret developed glaucoma which went undetected long enough to destroy her optic nerve. She has since added strabismus and amblyopia to her list, and despite six surgeries and years of patch therapy and medications, Margaret has lost nearly all vision in her right eye. This doesn't stop her. Nothing can stop Margaret! Nearly every day, I dream about the time when Margaret can regain all of her sight. She is fortunate to have great vision in one eye, so she does not need, or qualify for, services from Delta Gamma. However, many children do need these services, so we do what we can to support both research and organizations such as Delta Gamma that work to improve the quality of life of visually impaired children and their families.
We would like to ask you to help our daughter make a difference by participating in the run or walk on Sunday, May 5, 2013. If you cannot participate, please consider making a donation to the Delta Gamma Center. All proceeds from the run go to the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments. For more information about the center, please visit their site at www.dgckids.org.
(Click on the DONATE TO THIS FUNDRAISER button to the right if you'd like to donate but cannot be a part of the team on race day. Note, only non-race-entry donations will show up on this page).
Whether you run or walk, we hope to see all of you there! GO TEAM MARGARET!!!
