BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Dear Family and Friends,
I hope this letter finds you well. As most of you know, Liam, my nephew and godchild, has battled cancer since he was 5 months old. Liam was diagnosed with a Rhabdomyosarcoma tumor on his right lung in December of 2006 and immediately began treatment at Mass General Hospital.
The experience at Mass General Hospital was nothing but fabulous. The doctors and nurses treated Liam and his family with such kindness—the staff offered continuous reassurance, care and compassion, which undoubtedly helped my sister-in-law and her family with daily struggles. Liam has been cancer free since February of 2008 and we are so grateful to everyone at Mass General for taking such great care of Liam during those difficult years.
No person should have to live with or witness someone living with this terrible disease. With that in mind, on April 15, 2013, I will be running the Boston Marathon in honor of Liam as a member of the Mass General Marathon Team—“Fighting Kids' Cancer...One Step at a Time.” Liam is my inspiration. While a marathon will be a challenge for me, it doesn’t compare to the struggles that he endured during his treatments. Watching him beat the odds with his unyielding courage and determination has given me a heightened awareness as to what is important in life. He has helped me appreciate the true value of time and through him I have come to realize just how precious and delicate life can be.
I am excited about this process and am encouraging you to help and support my cause. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation or to find out more about Rhabdomyosarcoma, please visit www.crowdrise.com/massgeneralmarathon/fundraiser/amycasey, or you can send a check made out to Mass General Hospital and mail it to me at 53 Fiske Mill Rd., Upton MA 01568.
Thanks to an amazing network of family and friends.
