For those of you who do not know me, I have been a nurse at Mass. General for the past 16 years. The first four years I worked in the Gyn/Oncology Unit and for the past 12 years I have worked in Pediatrics. During this time I have seen some pretty amazing women and children fight the battle against cancer. Many of these women and children are still fighting today and many have unfortunately lost their battle. I will be running the marathon this year for all of my patients and families that continue to fight every day and for those who have lost the battle. I will be running for a little girl named Mary who lost her battle in 2007 to a brain tumor. Mary spent many weeks in the hospital and I really got to know her and her family. She had an amazing spirit and an infectious laugh. She loved chocolate, Santa Clause and the movie Matilda. She never got to experience riding the bus, going to kindergarten, and all that life has to offer. Her life ended way to short. So this year I run for her and her family and run for all the families who have lost a loved one to cancer and for those who are still fighting.
Please help me to stamp out childhood cancer! Any support is appreciated!!
The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
