BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
My career as a child life specialist has taken me to London, South Africa, Rwanda and back home to Boston where I now work on the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology unit at Mass General Hospital for Children. Working with children all over the world, I have had the opportunity to witness the tremendous impact that supportive programming, such as child life, has on the experience of hospitalized children.
Now I am eager to take on a new challenge in my career and run my first marathon in support of a very important cause! On April 15, 2013, I will run alongside my dedicated teammates on the Mass General Marathon Team, Fighting Kids’ Cancer… One Step at a Time. Together, we are raising funds for the Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC) Cancer Center. Any donation you can give will help fund childhood cancer research as well as art and music therapy; parent, teen and sibling support groups; and child life specialists (like me!) who help patients and their families cope with medical diagnoses and treatment.
I am so excited to be running in honor of Angel through the Patient Partner Program, which matches Mass General Marathon runners with young patients treated at the MGHfC Cancer Center. This enthusiastic, imaginative, and caring five-year-old and his family are a true inspiration and their heroic fight against cancer will motivate me during my training and help me complete the 26.2 miles on Marathon day!
Here is a link to some additional information about myself and my patient partner, Angel. http://www.massgeneral.org/children/about/newsarticle.aspx?id=4057
Thank you so much for your encouragement and support! Together we can make a difference in the lives of all the children treated at the MGHfC Cancer Center!
If you have any questions about this important cause or you would like to know more about the matching gift process (from your place of employment), please feel free to email me directly at email@example.com.

The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
