ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I am thrilled to have been selected to run the 2013 Boston Marathon as a member of the Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children.
My story is different than most on this team. Our team is fundraising to fight children's cancer, and although my inspiration is not a child, it is someone who dedicated her life to educating our youth. I lost my mother to brain cancer in January 2012, and MGH gave her the best fighting chance they could. She received tremendous care from MGH, for which my family and I will forever be grateful. Having experienced what it is like to be the son of someone battling cancer, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to see your child going through that battle. If my efforts through this team can help to prevent what happened to my Mom from happening to children, it will be well worth it every step of the way.
Returning to MGH for the first time since my Mom passed away was extremely tough, but knowing how much effort my Mom and her doctors put into her care there reminds me that the trials I am going to put my body through are still nothing compared to what my Mom braved through.
I am seeking your support to reach my goals in making this journey to Boston a success.
The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
