THE STORY:

I remember 2 years ago...my 10th Boston - my best so far!  I thought my Boston stint was over for a while.  But here I am again,  asking for your support.  You may ask why.  The short answer, because I can.

A couple of years ago, during a race, I saw a sign.  It read:

There may come a day when you cannot do this.

Today is not that day.

Today marks the 5th Anniversary of my dad's death.  I run in his memory because he was the first marathoner I knew, and continues to motivate my every run.  I run because I can.

I run for my children; to provide inspiration and (hopefully) a good role model for balancing work, life and healthy living.  I run because I can.

I run for my friend Noreen, thinking of the marathons she has run...on the road, and more recently marathons of chemotherapy, hospital stays, and waiting for answers.  I run because I can.

I run for my angel Mary.  She attacked her short life with armed with smiles, M&Ms and an amazing family.  She and her family embraced the MGH Marathon team and continue to support the hospital in the years since she was treated there.  Their love and faith continue to inspire me.  There are so many other families fighting the battle against childhood cancer right now.  More and more children survive cancer because people like you donate to research and support of the MGH programs.  But running Boston is one way I can help in that fight. I run because I can.

In absense of a "really good reason," I run because I can.

I run for all of my angles and friends for whom today is one of those days...they can't.  And since I can, I will.

The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
