EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I have been a pediatric nurse at MGH for the past 16 years and have had the honor of caring for many children, teens and families fighting cancer. Every child has a different story, but each one has amazing strength and determination to get through treatment and successfully be cured. Each one looks forward to beginning first grade, playing on a team, attending a dance, or going to college. All of them deserve a life full of milestones and fulfilling their dreams. Not chemo, radiation and surgery. During these 16 years, I have been encouraged to see wonderful advances in medicine, radiation and supportive care. However despite these advancements, I have seen too many precious lives end too soon.
We can do better!
Your tax deductible donations go DIRECTLY to Clinical research. Equally as important, are the programs that you will be supporting. HOPES program provides art, music, and massage and other activities that bring smiles to our kids' faces. Our Child Life team is critical to using therapeutic play and distraction to kids of all ages that come to the hospital. Beyond treatment, our team goes farther and continues to support patients and families in a Long Term Survivors' Clinic.
Before this year, I had never run a mile. With the inspiration of my patients and their families, the encouragement of my family and friends I will run 26.2 on April 15. With your generous support WE will raise over $5,000 to continue cutting edge clinical research to find cures and the programs that are so critical to improving the quality of our patient's lives while they undergo treatment, and beyond..... one step at a time.
YOU WILL HAVE A DIRECT AND IMMEDIATE POSITIVE EFFECT!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, updates or training tips!!

The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
