BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
The MGH is the place where I work, but it is also the place where I am learning the tremendous importance of research in medicine. It is the place where I am learning how to conduct research to help improve options for patients, and it is also the place where I relied on clinicians and researchers to provide the best treatment for a loved one in need.
In January 2013 I jumped at the opportunity to use my interest in endurance sports to support this special MGH community. In January I did not know much about pediatric oncology and I knew even less about running. Now that the fitness is (finally) coming together, I can confidently tell people about this crazy plan to run a marathon and I am switching my focus to the more important aspect of this event: fundraising.
I have a lofty fundraising goal and only a few weeks to accomplish it. Like learning a new sport, I know that many small steps will add up to a goal that at first seemed impossible to complete. I hope to also become part of the MGH patient-athlete partnership program so that I can learn about strength and resilience from the children benefiting from the money that we donate.
Thank you so much for your support and I hope to see many of you out on the course on Marathon Day!
The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
