I am so so excited to have been selected to run the 2013 Boston Marathon as a member of the Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children.
I was never much of an athlete growing up. In fact, in high school I was the girl that couldn't complete the mile run in gym class! It wasn't until just after college when a good friend of mine, Jake, passed away in a fatal car accident that I started running. The day after I heard the news I went out for a run to clear my head. Each day after that I went out and ran and I thought of Jake, and his athleticism and energy motivated me to keep running. The following September I ran my first half marathon, with a some great motivation and inspriation from an amazing friend and colleague Patsy Emberley. I have since run many races, and just completed my second half marathon this past September. Running has become such an important part of my life, and I can't wait to run my first marathon for such a great cause.
I work as a nurse in both the Emergency Room and Cardiac & Endovascular Center where I have the opportunity to help sick adults every day. I do not get the opportunity to help children in the hospital setting so I am thrilled to be able to run and raise money for pediatric oncology research. I have been paired up with a patient partner, a 20 year old young man who has been battling Sarcoma since age 13. I feel so blessed to be running with his story in my mind, giving me strength every step of the way.
Although cure rates for pediatric cancer have improved drastically over the years, there is still so much room for research and improvement. All of these kids deserve a chance, and you can help.
I can't thank you enough for your support! Please share this page with anyone that you think may be interested in donating to such an amazing cause.

The Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer ... One Step at a Time was established in 1998 and has raised nearly $8 million in support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
