BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
The theme for the Boston Marathon this year is "This is my moment... This is my marathon" For my daughter Elizabeth and I - "This is OUR Moment" (really her moment!).
Elizabeth is celebrating her 10 year anniversary of completing her treatment at Mass General Hospital for Hystiocytosis. Hystiocytosis is a very rare blood disorder. In Elizabeth's case, she had several tumors that affected her leg, pelvis, and vertebrate. Her treatments included an operation, radiation treatment and chemotherapy. It was a difficult time for her and our family, but she is 100% cured and we are eternally grateful to the MGH team of doctors and nurses that treated her.
After her treatment in 2002 - 2003, I was so inspired by the MGH Staff that I ran the Boston Marathon in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 for the MGH Marathon Team. The highlight was in 2007 when Elizabeth ran the last 6.2 miles with me. After that race, I thought I was done with marathons, but I had told Elizabeth I would run with her if she ever want to. She decided this was the year!
We are also honored to be running for Issac, a 14 year old boy who is currently being treated for Hystiocytosis at MGH. Issac has been through many of the same treatments that Elizabeth had so she can appreciate what he is dealing with. He is great kid who is fighting through the adversity and doing well.
To top it all off, we were selected to represent our team for a marathon promotion for John Hancock on WBZ. Please check out our spot here http://youtu.be/OBVmVfHwml0 , and look for it on WBZ TV channel 4.
Now the punch line... I need your help to raise money for MGH. If you are so inspired, please click on the this link:
