Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for supporting my cause.
As many of you know, I am a pediatric nurse at Mass General Hospital. On April 15, I will be lucky enough to participate in the 2013 Boston Marathon as a member of the Mass General Marathon Team, Fighting Kid's Cancer... One Step at a Time. The team consists of about 100 runners who are committed to raising a minimum of $5,000+ each and many of whom run in honor of a child being treated for cancer at Mass General Hospital for Children in Boston. I am specifically running for a patient of mine, a 16 year old girl named Charlotte. Charlotte is a beautiful, sweet, and very brave young girl who enjoys playing soccer, and spending time with her friends. I met Charlotte and her family when she was first diagnosed, and she continues to inspire me tremendously :) All I have to do is think of Charlotte and other patients like her, and suddenly my long training runs in the freezing cold don’t seem so bad anymore! If Charlotte has to be stuck in the hospital during her treatments, then I can certainly run my first 26.2 miles in April to help her fight!!
Even though the cure rates for pediatric cancer have drastically improved over the years, it is still not 100%. With your help, I hope to make it another step closer to finding a cure!
I am so grateful for your support to not only finish the race, but also to help fight childhood cancer! All of the money that I am raising goes directly to the Pediatric Hematology- Oncology Division at MGHfC and helps to support clinical lab research in childhood cancer and other programs including parent, teen and sibling support groups, and art and music therapy for our patients during their clinic visits.
Thank you so much for your support! Together we can help make a difference in the lives of these kids, and one day find a CURE for childhood cancer!
