EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I am so excited to be runnning the Boston Marathon this year for the pediatric cancer center at Mass General Hospital. Over the past year and a half I have had the chance to care for several children battling cancer working as a staff nurse in the Pediatric ICU here at MGH. It is an honor to be running in memory of Yousef, a 15 year old patient I took care of over the summer last year who lost his battle with cancer this past fall. Caring for he and his family during the ups and downs of his illness has touched my life and has taught me so much both professionally and personally. Yousef showed such strength and perseverance during his 2 year fight with a brain tumor. He was so mature beyond his years and was always so grateful to those who cared for him, whether it was his mother who rarely left his side or a favorite nurse from the cancer clinic stopping by to say hi...everyone loved Yousef! Though we all miss Yousef and his sweet smile, there is a way to honor his life in such a beautiful way while touching the lives of other children who continue to battle cancer like his.
I grew up watching the Boston Marathon year after year, always dreaming of being a part of it someday and today is that day. The opportunity to run the Boston Marathon as a part of the Mass General Marathon team Fighting Kids's Cancer makes this dream above and beyond what I could have ever imagined. I am truly honored to be running for such a great cause. I would love to raise $5000 to help find a cure for these precious children like Yousef. If you are able to help in this endeavor in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. If you are interested in sponsoring me please follow instructions above. Thank you so much for your contribution to this amazing cause!
