Running for a Cure to Pediatric Cancer
Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues,
With Marathon Monday less than a month away , I am reaching out to you to ask for your help in beating pediatric cancer. As a member of the 2013 Mass General Marathon Team, my teammates and I are running to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients. Since its founding, the Mass General Marathon team has provided many children and their families the necessary treatment to help children beat cancer.
For me, this marathon will be especially meaningful because I will be running for the patients at MGHfC and for the late Gary Abare and Michael Brigham. Gary, my Dad’s brother, suffered from Ewing’s Sarcoma and was diagnosed with cancer in his teenage years. Mike Brigham, a dear family friend, basketball coach and youth mentor, passed away in March 2011 from a battle with Kidney cancer. It is with their spirit, strength, youthful demeanor and enthusiasm that I run in honor of. This, coupled with the efforts at MassGeneral Hospital for Children, offers me both great inspiration and the belief that we will one day provide a cure for this devastating disease.
As a member of the 2013 Boston Marathon Mass General Marathon Team, I am fundraising at least $5000 that will provide cancer treatment to the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Thus far I have fundraised around $2500 of my goal but will need your help these next few weeks in reaching my goal of $5000. If you could please consider a donation of $10, $15 or $20 dollars you will be making a great difference in the lives of those children affected by cancer and giving them the opportunity to thrive and beat their illness. Donations may be made at one of the following websites - <http://www.crowdrise.com/teammassgeneralhospital/fundraiser/robertabare> OR
<http://www.crowdrise.com/robertabare> or send a check to the address below. All checks can be made out to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Thank you so much for your help in this cause. Please consider donating ASAP as we are now getting to crunch time and the kids need us to reach this goal! Thanks and Ill be sure to keep you updated in my experiences while preparing for the marathon. Hope to see you there!
