EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I’m privileged to run the 2013 Boston Marathon in honor of Matthew Cirelli. Matt is an 18 year old (19 on 3/19/13…HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWIRLS!) high school senior from Medford that has won his battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma because of the treatment he received at MGH, his personal strength and courage along with the support of his family and friends. My family and I have had the pleasure to meet Matt and his mom Barbara and continue to speak on a weekly basis. They are an amazing family and we look forward to our continued friendship.
The 2013 Boston Marathon will be my 7th marathon and 4th Boston. I can guarantee that running for The MassGeneral Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer will make this race the most memorable of them all. I’ve been training hard preparing for the race but can’t succeed alone. I need your help to reach my fundraising goal of $7,000.
Just like all new parents, my wife Michelle and I view the world differently since our son Harley was born on 10/16/2012. We immediately started thinking about all of the experiences we would share and memories we would make as a family. Later the next day, I was checking email and read the invitation from MassGeneral inviting me to join their team and support their cause. I quickly realized that not every family’s future starts off as bright as ours and that at any moment our son’s health can unexpectedly change. Having those dreams taken away from any family is unimaginable. Pediatric cancer is a devastating disease and a dream ending reality for many children and their families.
- Every day 36 children are diagnosed with cancer.
- 1 in every 330 Americans develops cancer before age 20.
Amazingly in the last three decades, survival rates have improved dramatically and today, more than 75% of newly diagnosed childhood cancer patient are cured…because of organizations like MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. With YOUR help we WILL build awareness, raise funds for research and a cure while inspiring and brining hope to children who are currently fighting this disease.

Thanks to the generous support of John Hancock Financial and other partners, we will continue to run until we find a cure … One Step at a Time.
