EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
Katie & I met when I showed up to room with her at Newberry Hall at the University of Michigan. She must have been terrified when a big haired Texan with a Garth Brooks CD in a boom-box showed up to share a tiny room with her. Still, she and her family welcomed me with open arms. (And while I’m still musically illiterate, she did manage to teach me the difference between Roberts Plant & Palmer.)
Fast forward 22 years (gasp!)… Katie & I remain close friends. She and her husband Luan have since fled Michigan too. They live in Boston now and have a beautiful 6 year old, Kaltrina, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
I’ve ‘run’ a few marathons over the years so Katie approached me about joining team MDSC to help raise funds for a cause that has helped her family so much. How could I turn down an opportunity at Boston & to support my good friend? So I sent in an application & here we are.
The MDSC’s advocacy programs and amazing support programs for new parents, educators, and the medical community have made it possible to offer Kaltrina the best. She is fully included in her first grade class, plays YMCA soccer, and danced in the Nutcracker for the first time this year after 3 years of ballet lessons! She swims, bikes, rides horses & if I can keep my end of the bargain will cross the finish line with me on 4/15/2013.
Please consider a donation to the MDSC which has helped prove that Kaltrina & others like her are more like us than different. Thank you!
