EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
As many of you may know, Russ has been a huge force and inspiring leader in raising awareness and funds for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, MDSC since his son Colin was born just over a year ago. Russ not only is extremely grateful and appreciative to the MDSC for all the amazing help, support, guidance and genuine heartfelt kindness they have given his family and many families throughout Massachusetts. A personal goal to not only to make a difference, but to “pay it forward” in honor of all those who have worked tirelessly over the years for people with down syndrome. Last year he decided to run the Boston Marathon and made a commitment to do so year after year in efforts to raise money for the MDSC Team. In the 90 heat, this was truly no easy task... but with a little help and support of a couple 100 friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, community- he did it - in an impressive time of 3:48 to be exact!
However, this year Russ will not be running the Boston Marathon do to major surgery that occurred this past December. We are so grateful and blessed Russ is recovering but because of this, he will not be running in this years Boston Marathon. This setback however, doesn't mean his enthusiasm and dedication in raising money and support for the MDSC should stop as well. To help continue Russ's strong momentum in promoting Down Syndrome awareness, programs, services and fundraising - two admiring friends will proudly and with great honor run in his place. So Russ doesn't miss a "step" Jane and I (Cheryl) have decided to carry on his commitment and passion for the MDSC Team that is truly dear to his heart- by running this year's Boston Marathon in his spot. You can track us race day as we run for Colin and all people with Down Syndrome!
We realize that Russ has left us with some "big sneakers to fill" (that is why it is taking 2 of us!) but we will be honored to run for little Colin, Russ and the entire Trottier family come April 15th in Hopkinton. Both Jane and I have earned our own bib numbers (Cheryl 13296, Jane 22235) for this years race and for Jane this will be her 1st Boston Marathon. So this race would be an achievement on its own, but now it is so much more meaningful and powerful. To continue Russ's fund raising efforts, Jane and I will do the easy part - run the 26 miles! We just need your support for Colin & Russ again this year. No contribution is too small or large - every dollar counts! Please continue to support the Trottier family, the wonderful MDSC and the chance to give back! Boston is less than 3 weeks away and lets follow in Russ's footsteps -and make him proud and more importantly make a difference!
