Syria is the greatest humanitarian crisis of our generation. At the end of 2015, the UN estimates that 13.5 million people need humanitarian assistance inside the country. Over half of the population has been displaced, including 1.2 million people in 2015 alone and many for the second or third time. Over 4.2 million Syrians are now refugees. An estimated 250,000 have been killed.
Mt. Rainier (14,411 ft), the tallest volcano in the US, is often shrouded in Seattle’s famous clouds. When the clouds clear, however, you can’t help but stare. Seattleites have a way of talking about this: “the mountain is out”. By climbing this mountain, we hope to direct similar attention to the families caught in the middle of this crisis.
Will you join us by donating $0.05, $0.10, $0.20, or $1.00 for every foot of Mt. Rainier we climb? Our climb will take 3 days. We will depart our last camp at Ingraham Glacier (11,000 feet) at 1 AM on Day 3. Please join us in spirit for a summit sunrise on Day 3.
100% of every dollar raised will go directly to either Mercy Corps or the International Rescue Committee (IRC) -- you will receive a tax-deductible receipt for your donation. We are honored to partner with these organizations as two of the most effective organizations helping Syrian families survive, recover, and rebuild
