BENEFITING: Daraja Education Fund
EVENT DATE: May 17, 2015
"My goal is to be a surgeon because I know it will benefit my community."
The Kenyan government only provides free access to education through the primary grades (K-8). Beyond primary school, students or their families must pay all fees associated with their schooling. Countless bright, eager students are kept from furthering their education simply they cannot pay these fees.
The oldest of eight children, Salome grew up balancing her schoolwork and taking care of her family, often, by herself. In school in the Northwest town of Pokot, Salome was the top of her class and served as Class President.
At Daraja, Salome is known for her prowess on the athletic field. She is a top scorer on the football (soccer) team and competes on the cross country and track teams. Salome finished in the top five of the last two Bay to Breakers races. With support from around the world, Salome could make that a 1st place finish this year!
Please consider supporting Salome as she runs to raise money for her own education on May 17th in Kenya, while many Daraja supporters are running in the annual San Francisco Bay to Breakers race in solidarity.
Separated by an ocean. United by a cause.
