The Nature Conservancy works every day, all around the world to protect the lands and waters that everyone needs to survive and thrive. Over 60 years that commitment has resulted in more than 119 million acres of land and 5,000 river miles preserved.
And our staff and trustees are just as committed! On April 16, Team Nature will be running with heart and soul for healthy lands and waters in the Boston Marathon. Four runners are representing The Nature Conservancy in one of the country’s biggest marathons: staffers Caroline Allison, Elizabeth Scott and Jamie Williams, as well as Maine trustee Ben Willauer.
When you donate to Team Nature, you’re helping to support the Conservancy's vision to leave a sustainable world for future generations.
Team Nature Takes Boston
They each have a different reason to run, but they share the same determination. Between now and April 16, Team Nature runners are training with all they’ve got and spreading the word.
Jamie Williams, director of landscape conservation for the Conservancy in Colorado, is more of a biker than a runner.
“I think pushing the envelope with this marathon is a really fun way to support a great organization that is helping so many communities across the world sustain nature for us all,” Jaime says. “Team Nature and I would be deeply grateful for your support.”
Elizabeth Scott, of the philanthropy team for the Conservancy in Massachusetts, is running in recognition of the inspiration that nature has brought to her life.
"I've experienced firsthand the benefits of conserving lands in their wild state for people to enjoy. Now that I have children, some of my favorite moments have been sharing nature's wonders with them. I've grown more passionate about saving some of the world's last great places, and providing such beautiful experiences for future generations. I hope you'll join me in supporting The Nature Conservancy's good works in Massachusetts and around the world by making a donation.”
Runner Caroline Allison, also from the Massachusetts program’s philanthropy team, is motivated by the Conservancy’s work to safeguard our waters.
“I grew up in a home abutting conservation land and spending summers in the Tennessee mountains,” Caroline says. “My brothers and I would spend hours outside swimming, exploring the woods, hiking and generally playing around. It wasn't until I was in Boston working for The Nature Conservancy that I had a grasp on the reality of our world's natural resources.”
“So, yes, I am running the Boston Marathon for Team Nature to help ensure that the beautiful outdoor spaces I have been lucky enough to see are still around for generations to come. But my run is also for those who never get to be immersed in forests, fields and lakes but who need clean water and air just as much as any one of us. Protecting nature helps plants, animals and people everywhere—from the mountains to the city.”
