BENEFITING: The Nature Conservancy
ORGANIZER: The Nature Conservancy
EVENT: Marine Corps Marathon 2012
EVENT DATE: Oct 28, 2012
Thanks for supporting our Marine Corps Marathon run, on behalf of The Nature Conservancy! Team RandL is super-pumped for this marathon! Rowan especially. She really loves all the good work that TNC does. For starters, TNC is very prominent in helping protect the beautiful reefs and beaches of home, St. Croix. Rowan loves anyone who helps keep St. Croix beautiful. And they are working hard to help restore and revitalize Chesapeake Bay, where Rowan has had lots of fun keeping ducks honest and digging little channels to improve water flow for the oyster beds. Chesapeake Bay also just happens to be America's premier estuary and is the lifeblood for a ton of fisheries, recreation industries, and loads and loads of sailing.
We have a pretty good divying up of training for the marathon. I'm doing the running and Rowan is doing the extra napping through the morning. It's pretty fair. She also helps clear the trails of squirrels and their seditious activities prior to my runs. Gotta keep DC's squirrels honest! We have a formidable Coach who gets us up early and makes sure that we get our training in. Gotta finish strong! Coach is also quite generous with belly rubs. Rowan sometimes gets some too!
But to make this marathon a success, we need you too. Your help, love and support will go a long way to help support all the important work of TNC and also keep us out there running, rain or shine.
So please take the time to consider donating to this very worthy cause. It's because of people like TNC that make outdoor time with Rowan so much fun and memorable. We have some marvelous coastal spaces and they're worth conserving not only for today but also for our future. We thank you in advance and look forward to running into you on a beach or trail in the near future. Literally. You'll know by the pack of squirrels scampering to safety.

Some More Info on What TNC Will Do With The Raised Monies (It's Important Work!):
The Nature Conservancy’s Team Nature is joining the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28, 2012. We want to make “the people’s marathon,” as the Marine Corps event is often known, a marathon for people and nature.
Our running team is raising funds to help protect and restore our planet and natural treasures like the Chesapeake Bay.
The 26.2-mile MCM course passes by some of our most treasured national monuments and is within easy driving distance of the Bay, Virginia Coast Reserve and Central Appalachians -- all important natural habitats the Conservancy has helped to protect.
Here's what Team RandL's $400 donation to The Nature Conservancy could help us accomplish:
- Restore more than 2,000 baby oysters to reefs in the Chesapeake Bay, providing habitat for rockfish and crabs.
- Buy 2,000 longleaf pine seedlings to plant, helping restore one of America’s most diverse and endangered forest systems.
- Conduct a prescribed burn on four acres at Warm Springs Mountain Preserve to help restore pine-oak forests.
And when you help us reach our collective MCM goal of $30,000, your efforts will help protect even more lands and waters for the benefit of people and nature. Thanks and Happy Trails!
