EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
I am honored to run the New York Marathon for Nick’s team for the second time. I first ran with the team in 2008. At that time, I was looking to run my fourth marathon and first in New York, but I felt strongly that I wanted to make a difference at the same time. I looked through all of the charities associated with the New York Marathon, each representing such a great cause. When I found Nick’s Team however, I was incredibly moved by the story and immediately contacted Nick’s mother and asked to be a part of the team.
As you may know from this website, Nick was a 35-year old firefighter and rescue specialist with Rescue 5 located on Staten Island, NY who responded to his call of duty on 9/11/01 to help save lives in the World Trade Center. He, along with many others, was someone who paid the ultimate price that day. His family has described him as a person who loved life, his family and his friends. He was an athlete through his life and played football for Port Richmond High School. It is there that his mother, two brothers and sister established The Nicholas Rossomando 9/11 Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund provides annual college scholarships to one male and one female athlete each year. This is his family’s way to keep his spirit alive, honor his memory and bring forth hope from what was lost.
When I started thinking about running another marathon this year, I again immediately contacted Nick’s team to see if I could run for them. When I think about Nick, as I do each day, I think about a hero, a person who loved life, a person who did the unthinkable that day to save others. I’m reminded what a blessing each and every day is. And I am incredibly grateful to be a part of honoring his memory!
Please help with a donation in support of The Nicholas Rossomando 9/11 Memorial Scholarship Fund and help keep his memory alive!

It has been extremely gratifying for us associated with Nick's Fund to be involved for the last (7) years with the ING NYC Marathon as a Charity Partner. Our last involvement alone raised $62,000.00 from Crowdrise and other sources. And, the good news is, we will again have a team running in the 2012 race. Every year is special to us because we are succeeding in reaching our goal as stated in our mission statement. Won't you help us to continue Nick's legacy of helping others.
If you haven't visited our 2011 ING NYC Marathon fundraising page to check out how we did last year, you can do that now, by clicking here.
When you are done there. please visit our website. . On Nick's website you will see what's been going on with the fund since it's inception.
On the left-hand side of our website, are pictures of prior team members before, during and after their runs with the ING NYC Marathon, 2006-2011. The size of our team is small, however it allows the runners to get close with their fellow team members if they so choose. As you will see on Nick's website, we have a Pre-Marathon dinner each year. It is held on the Friday before race day, by that time we have a pretty good picture as to how well we have done with fundraising and the runners get a chance to meet and celebrate with each other. We get to meet many of the runners on the team, those we have been corresponding with for so long. It definitely is a great night. We have an archive where you can read about our recipients from year to year. We try to get them to the Pre-Marathon Dinner if we can. The team members love to meet them.
