OAKDALE COVENANT CHURCH CHICAGO IL wrote -
We are the largest African American congregation in the Evangelical Covenant Churches of America. In 1970, Oakdale called its first African-American pastor, Reverend Dr. Willie B. Jemison, who served until his retirement in January 2000. Under Dr. Jemison’s leadership, Oakdale Christian Academy and Childcare Center (“OCA”) located at 9440 S. Vincennes Ave., Chicago, IL., was established in 1992 to respond to the educational needs of the community.
Today, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. D. Darrell Griffin, D. Min., OCA serves over 300 students from Pre-school through Junior High. OCA provides a high-quality education with an emphasis on Christian faith and development. As we develop each student’s intellect and character, we prepare each student for life-long learning and global service. The school’s nurturing environment encourages our students to discover, explore and develop their gifts inside and outside the classroom. We strive to support the “whole child” to ensure that each child maximizes their potential and positively impacts the world.
OCA has continued to thrive in the City of Chicago despite the steady decline of Christian School options for students. To that end, Oakdale Covenant Church solicits your participation in our 2016 fundraising efforts to develop a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) Lab for OCA. In addition, funds will be used to expand Music & Arts education opportunities and include students in the Oakdale and OCA community. OCA is the home of Chicago's own OCA Choir!! Please join us as we continue to invest in the lives of children and youth in the Chicago area. Our 2016 fundraising goal is $20,000!
