BENEFITING: Opportunity Enterprises, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Opportunity Enterprises, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
Three and a half years ago I hoped to maybe make it through 10 non-stop minutes on the treadmill. Two years ago, I hoped to maybe run a 5k (3.1 miles). After joining a running club in 2011 the 5k dreams turned into being convinced to run a half marathon (13.1 miles).
And now four half marathons, two 15k's, and several 7k and 5k races later, I'm registered for the Chicago Marathon (26.2 miles).
I'd always been an active person and enjoyed working out but still had some very unhealthy habits. Running has been the best medicine, therapy, and source of friendship. I'm not asking you to pull out a few miles with me or ring a cow bell as I muster through the finish line chute but I am asking you for your monetary support in raising money for Opportunity Enterprises.
OE, Opportunity Enterprises is a non-profit organization based out of Valparaiso, Indiana that changes the lives of thousands of individuals with disabilities throughout Northwest Indiana. Opportunity Enterprises serve people with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, severe physical and mental disabilities, Alzheimer’s, dementia, loss of limbs, and other challenges. OE supports people who are profoundly challenged and have limited mobility as well as those who are higher-functioning and go to work every day. Their primary mission is to help people of all ages and abilities learn, live independently, and work. http://www.oppent.org/
The OE Chicago Marathon Team is the primary fundraiser for this organization. Last year over $178,000 were raised by donations from each runner's support team. Will you offer your support in helping me to raise my goal amount of $500 for OE?
And when I'm hitting the wall and doubting my body's ability, I'll be able to reach deep and acknowledge the great team that is supporting me.
Thank you.... Beth
