BENEFITING: Opportunity Enterprises, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Opportunity Enterprises, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
I am running this marathon for all young adults who struggle to make the transition into adulthood due to lack of resources and programs in communities throughout America. Particularly, I am running for Collin, a young man with severe autism who I worked with as a one on one aid for a year. While researching the residential and occupational options for Collin after high school, it was evident that the number of resources was limited in the community. Opportunity Enterprises, Inc. provides these resources for the young adults who desperately need them.
Opportunity Enterprises, Inc. is a non-profit organization in Northwest Indiana whose mission is to create sustainable life choices and opportunities for individuals with unique challenges and abilities. Funds raised by the Marathon Team this year will support growth and development at OE Lakeside and the programs that are, or soon will be, housed there – Enriching Possibilities, a curriculum-based program for individuals with moderate to severe disabilities, the Renewed Horizons Adult Day Center, which serves senior adults with special needs, and Daily Living Skills, a program which teaches basic skills to individuals with severe to profound disabilities. These three programs serve about 150 clients on a daily basis.
