BENEFITING: OPERATION WARD 57
EVENT DATE: Nov 27, 2011
Thank you for joining the Official Operation Ward 57 Team at the 2012 Seattle Marathon and Iraq Afghanistan Run for Remembrance. You are helping to raise funds and awareness for Operation Ward 57. Even if you can't participate in the race you are welcome to create a fundraising page.
Following the successful Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon Baghdad Shadow Run, which took place in Baghdad, Iraq in November 2009, The Seattle Marathon Association, Amica Insurance and Operation Ward 57 have come together to present the 2012 Iraq/Afghanistan Run for Remembrance in honor of those who died or were wounded in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The race will be a part of the Seattle Marathon, half Marathon and 5K on November 24th and 25th, 2012.
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD is the first stop for many of America's returning wounded service members from Iraq and Afghanistan. Known as "the amputee ward", the historic orthopedic Ward 57 at the Army Medical Center, now 4th Floor at WRNMMC, houses some of the most severely injured patients for weeks or even months. The painful sacrifice of losing one or more limbs is the new battle these service members and their families now fight.
Operation Ward 57 was started to have a direct way for individuals and companies to show their support and raise funds for these courageous men and women who have given so much. Additional support is provided for the Warrior Transition Battalions (WTB's) around the country.
This is a grass-roots, volunteer effort. Each person who donates, not only shows their support, but directly contributes to items for the Ward, patients, family members and staff.
All funds raised by the team will benefit Operation Ward 57 Programs.
