QUICK UPDATE: FUNDRAISING DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 2013.
I first learned about the severity of Lou Gehrig's disease when met my friend Mike Sellinger. Mike and I were groomsmen in a close friend's wedding, and as we relaxed after a night of wedding week festivities, I remember our conversation turning toward a meditation on loss. Mike told me a story that I won't forget: he told me about his mother's diagnosis with Lou Gehrig's disease. He told me about how Lou Gehrig's disease slowly incapacitated his mother, how he saw ALS take over, and most heartbreaking of all, how powerless anyone was to stop it. That story stuck with me, and when I heard that his girlfriend Elise also had her great uncle die of Lou Gehrig's disease, I really understood the emotional scope and gravitas of how much it impacts a family.
So when Elise posted a call on Facebook for runners interested in running for Lou Gehrig's cure research, I felt compelled to respond.
These stories shared are the reason I have the opportunity to be in the New York City Marathon.
I sincerely hope you'll make a tax-deductible donation to support me as I run for Prize4Life in honor of Mike and Elise's families! Any amount of money is a step toward my goal of 3000 is a great help and is eternally appreciated. 1,5,10,20, it all goes toward cure research. I urge you to consider a minimum donation of 26.2 dollars, a dollar (and twenty cents) for every mile that I'm running. If you're lucky enough to be employed at a company that does charitable matching (Cartus, Autozone, etc), please consider donating through that program.
Finally, I'd like to thank Elise again for the opportunity to run in the marathon. See you all Nov 4th!
Thank you all for your support. One love,
