On June 19, 2012 Pamela Oldag and her twin sister Dixie entered this world. Pamela had an enlarged abdomen and hip dysplasia. Fluid was drained from her abdomen and she was in a brace for several months. The doctors said her abdomen would go down with time as she grew. The brace fixed up her hips just fine. Her abdomen however continued to be enlarged. Turns out Pamela has an extremely rare medical condition causing the blood flow into her liver to “backwash” into her spleen. This caused her spleen to be enlarged and veins to exist were they normally would not to redirect blood flow. This condition is so rare that her doctors have never seen it before.
On September 15, 2014 Pamela underwent a surgery to repair the blood flow through her liver and cauterize the veins that should not exist. As the doctor initially suspected the vein was flipped and kinked. During a nine hour surgery he repaired the vein and cauterized the other veins. After the surgery she was doing good in ICU.
On September 16, 2014 clotting was found at the vein repair and Pamela underwent another five hour surgery to attempt to fix the cause of the clotting. The next day more clotting was found and Pamela underwent another procedure with the possibility of needing a stent. During that procedure the doctor found that blood flow was okay, a stent was not needed and determined that no more surgery would be done. Everyone involved is hoping that Pamela will heal quickly with no further complications and be home soon. After she returns home she will continue to have periodic ultrasounds to make sure all is well. Her spleen is expected to return to a normal size within the next year. If it does not she will have another surgery to remove it.
Her mommy and daddy, who already had a three year old boy, received a big surprise when their second baby turned out to be two babies. They couldn’t love their surprises or the big brother more. The same goes for the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Pamela’s parents have their hands full with twin two year old girls and a five year old boy and they work hard to care and provide for their children.
This fundraising campaign is a joint effort by all of Pamela’s cousins because she is our sweet little Pammie Cakes that we love to the moon and back. Her mommy and daddy have enough to worry about with her recovery and we do not want them to have to worry about finances as well. Please donate if you can and if you are not able to your thoughts, prayers and well wishes are welcome too.
