BENEFITING: UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Just 2 years ago I started running to change my life. I was an alcoholic on the verge of loosing my family and I wanted to make a change in my life so I started running. I now have 14 months clean and sobber. With each step I take I want more and more from my running. It has changed my life and I in return want to help change the lives of others who need my help. I have ran a total of 4 marathons this year which includes the Chicago marathon just last month and the Long Cane 55 mile Ultra trail marathon. I have also ran a few half marathons as well. I am now invited to run the NYC 2012 Marathon by the CDP group Cellmates on the run. Cellmates on the run is a charity group that helps to raise money for the Chicago Diabetes Project. The money goes toward researching a cure for diabetes and for studing islet cell transplants as a viable cure for diabetes. Every dollar goes to make a huge difference in someone's life. It takes $100,000.00 to give someone a life saving islet cell transplant, you can be a part of that. For more information go to www.outrundiabetes.com.
I chose to support Cellmates charity group because my wife and father-in-law both have type II diabetes, and I run in the memory of my mother-in-law Glenda Quarles who lost her 25 year battle with type I diabetes on June 13th of this year. My father-in-law has had both legs amputated because of diabetes just in the past 12 months. My wife was diagnosed last February as type II. I have seen first hand what diabetes can do to someone. It takes away their vitality and quality of life and no matter how hard they fight eventually diabetes wins in the end. Please join in and help me and the Chicago Diabetes Project to outrun diabetes! Your donations will help make a life saving difference. Thank you!
