Amidst an abundance of agriculture, many residents of Yolo County have insufficient access to food. About one in six residents (and one in four children) are classified as “food insecure.” The Food Bank, via its own innovative programs and in partnership with over 60 agencies distributes ~80,000 pounds of food a week to over 20,000 recipients. The food bank can turn one dollar of contribution into food for more than 2 meals. If we reach our goal, that is effectively a donation of more than 8,000 meals. For more visit http://www.yolofoodbank.org.
Team Physics is organized by Lloyd Knox (Professor of Physics and Vice President of the Board of Directors of YFB) and Richard Scalettar (Professor of Physics and Prize-winning fashionisto*). Lloyd and Richard will match contributions dollar for dollar until we reach our goal. This includes donations made here, as well as the $35 race registration fees that we will count toward this goal. As teachers, Richard and I care deeply about the development of young minds. We are saddened that so many children in Yolo County do not get all the food they need to perform at their best. We are heartened that the Yolo Food Bank exists so that our money, and our friends' and colleagues' money, can help to meet those needs.
Please join us! Thank you.
