In lieu of celebrating my upcoming 25th birthday with another yearly dinner, I'll be volunteering for an event this Friday called "Sleepover at the Shelter" at the Downey Animal Care Center. And, in memory of my 12-year-old Shar-Pei, Pogo, who passed last August, I've set up this page to help fund 400 spay/neuter surgeries, microchips, and vaccinations for the pets of underserved families throughout Orange County. Please donate to Team Pogo if you can. ANY amount is much appreciated, and I will remember your generosity furever. Thank you ▽^ᴥ^▽
(Also, if you'd like to join me this Friday in volunteering, email firstname.lastname@example.org to get set up. Or just come by to see the shelter pets!)
"Sleepover at the Shelter” is an event to increase adoptions at animal shelters and to raise money to provide free spay-neuter to underserved communities.
There are thousands of homeless pets at Los Angeles-area shelters waiting for a home of their own. And in many communities, less than 10 percent of the pets are sterilized. We need to work together to prevent so many animals from entering the shelters and get more people to understand that you can find your perfect pet at the shelter.
Shelter Me, Bark Avenue Foundation and the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation are hosting the first ever “Sleepover at the Shelter” at the Downey Shelter on Friday, June 12th.
A group of volunteers will be spending time at the Downey Shelter over a 24-hour period to celebrate the beautiful animals that are waiting to be adopted.
The volunteers will be staying in three separate "kennels" (the kennels are play yards that are right next to the dog kennels). Just like a 10K run/walk, people can donate any amount for the number of hours a volunteer stays in a kennel. Our goal is to raise $30,000 so we can provide 400 free spay-neuter surgeries in the Downey area. We will also be providing microchips and vaccinations.
There will be a big adoption event at the Downey Shelter on Saturday, June 13th.
11258 South Garfield Ave. Downey, CA 90242.
