BENEFITING: Daraja Education Fund
EVENT DATE: May 17, 2015
"People thought I would not go to school and get married, but I proved them wrong."
The Kenyan government only provides free access to education through the primary grades (K-8). Beyond primary school, students or their families must pay all fees associated with their schooling. Countless bright, eager students are kept from furthering their education simply they cannot pay these fees.
Alice was raised with her six siblings in the Northern Kenyan town of Isiolo, however tribal violence displaced her family and they migrated to a slum in the city of Nanyuki, close to the Daraja campus. Alice’s determination to make the most of the education she’s been offered at Daraja shows in everything she does. As Student Body President, this Form 4 (Senior) student sets a strong example for all of Daraja’s younger girls.
Please consider supporting Alice as she runs to raise money for her own education on May 17th in Kenya, while many Daraja supporters are running in the annual San Francisco Bay to Breakers race in solidarity.
Separated by an ocean. United by a cause.
