BENEFITING: Project ALS
ORGANIZER: Project ALS
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
Welcome to the home of CAPS KIDS!
We are proud to once again join Project ALS and have another shot at participating in the prestigious New York City Marathon on November 2. The team consists of Christine, Ray, Dana, and Stephanie. We will traverse 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of New York City in memory of Carol Ann Paul (CAP) who lost her courageous battle with ALS on May 14, 2013 at the age of 76. Mom bravely endured a three year struggle with this horrific and unforgiving disease. While she left us on earth, her spirit continues to beat in our hearts and her strength permeates our bodies as we train, fundraise and work to complete this extraordinary event.
Our participation will benefit Project A.L.S., a 501(C)(3) nonprofit that funds research to treat and ultimately cure this terrible disease. Project A.L.S. has changed the paradigm for brain disease research. In 16 years, the organization has raised over $67 million and directs 90% of all funds raised to aggressive, groundbreaking research programs. They were the first ALS non-profit to require a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach among competing scientists as a condition of funding. It was the first organization to investigate stem cells in ALS and to use patient derived models to be able to accurately model the human disease. It opened the first ever privately funded stem cell laboratory devoted exclusively to understanding and treating ALS, which generated the first patient specific stem cell lines that are now being screened for drugs that might slow or stop the disease.
We hope you will help by making a donation or coming out to cheer us on November 2. The journey we are taking is nothing compared to what those with an ALS diagnosis face. In honor of all the valiant souls who have, who are, and who will battle ALS, this is for you in the hopes we can make a small difference.
Thanks so much for your generosity!
