BENEFITING: PROJECT PURPLE
ORGANIZER: PROJECT PURPLE
EVENT: Marine Corps Marathon 2013
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
PROJECT PURPLE - I am running MCM in honor of my father Benson Foland who passed away on July 6, 1999, one month after being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
Unfortunately, the disease was detected in Stage 4 and his doctors recommended against fighting the cancer with treatment. This terrible disease cut short what would have been a wonderful life in retirement after serving our country, both in the Air Force and at the Department of Defense, for over 35 years.
He remained incredibly strong up until being placed in hospice, caring for his gardens and beloved wife, Jean.
HIs love and guidance continue to influence me in life and in famliy. I know he would be extremely proud of his kids and five grandkids, all of whom are following his positive example in life.
The first marathon I ever ran was Marine Corps Marathon in 1997 and he was there to cheer me on in the rain and cold. I am proud to return and run in his honor for Team Project Purple.
Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th largest killer of all cancers and the least funded of the top 10 cancer killers today. We need to do more - we have lost one too many friends, family and loved ones to this evil cancer.
Thank you all for the support!
