Dearest Friends and Family,
As you know, on 21 September 2012, I lost my best friend and loyal pupster, Rowan, in a tragic accident here in Washington DC. We were in the midst of training for the 2012 Marine Corps Marathon, and raising money for Team Nature, when the accident on a quiet night and quiet street took her. So, in honor and memory of my best buddy and training partner, I've set up this memorial fund. While nothing can bring her back, I hope to celebrate her life and love and devotion by turning such sadness into something positive.
The Dr. Rowan Carr, Squirrelogist, Memorial Fund directly supports the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center, on Rowan's home island of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. It was there that we first met and formed Team RandL. Little did I know the day Rowan was adopted the adventures we'd go on and the fun times we'd share. Inseparable to the end, she was the best dog and I'm eternally grateful for all she taught me in the 8+ years we were together. Whether it was life, love, or loss, Rowan, in her own way, has shown me the way forward. And because of the time we did have, I appreciate all the wonders of this world just a little bit more. Who needs rose-colored glasses when you have a little red bundle of fur, always smiling and ready to play!
And while she has left us far, far too soon, it is my hope that her good name will live on by giving back to the shelter and its very important work.
I thank you very, very much for taking the time to come check out this page and for considering a donation. I continue to train for the Marine Corps Marathon, buoyed by her love and affection and the kindness and love of my friends and family. I am most deeply humbled by the outpouring of love and support. With you and the warm memories of Rowan, together we will all cross that finish line.
Peace, Love & Squirrels
