BENEFITING: Marc Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 19, 2014
In January of 2012, my father Jim Gaydos was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Jim undertook rigurous chemotherapy and radiation in order to treat the disease.Throughout his treatment, Jim's passion for his family, friends, and job never faltered. He countinued doing the things he loved with an unwavering vigor. Whether he was working outside in his vegetable garden, kayaking with our family or hiking in his beloved Jim Thorpe, Pa., Jim never stopped living life to the fullest.
On March 30, 2013, Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Jim's enthusiasm for his family and friends were truely inspirational. Those lucky enough to have known Jim carry his spirit in the memories and stories that captured his humor, thoughtfulness, and devotion to the world around him.
Of all of Jim's passions, one that could not be matched was his love for his hometown of Bethlehem, Pa. For this reason, Team Renegaydos has chosen to run the Runner's World Half Marathon and Festival on the weekend of October 17th-19th, 2014 in order to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research. The half marathon will tour participants through the city that was so near to Jim's heart. For those not interested in running the full 13.1 miles (we know, it's alot!) the event has 5k and 10k options. We know this is the type of event that Jim would have loved to be a part of, even if he was standing on the sidelines with his Weber grill cheering on the participants. A donation of any size - big or small - will help in the fight to fund Pancreatic Cancer research.
About the Cause - The Lustgarten Foundation
Pancreatic cancer is one of the nation’s deadliest cancers with a five-year relative survival rate of just 6%. An estimated 73 percent of patients will die in the first year of diagnosis. Even though the disease is so deadly, only 2% of the National Cancer Institute's budget goes toward Pancreatic Cancer research.
The Lustgarten Foundation is committed to increasing funding and support of research into the biological mechanisms and clinical strategies related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Pancreatic Cancer.
100% of donations made to the Lustgarten Foundation will go directly to Pancreatic Cancer research.
How to Participate
We would love for you to help support research for Pancreatic Cancer. You can do so in two ways:
1) Join the Team - There would be no better way to celebrate Jim's life than to get out there and seize the day! You can do so by going to the Runner's World Half Marathon site and registering for one of the three races. When registering, be sure to choose "Team Member" registration where you can select "Team Renegaydos" upon registration. The more participants the better! We'll be there to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer and celebrate the life of Jim Gaydos in his hometown, Bethlehem, Pa.
2) Donate - We appreciate any donation you are willing to make. All of the money the Lustgarten Foundation recieves will go directly toward Pancreatic Cancer Research.
We hope to see you in Bethlehem on the weekend of October 17th-19th. Thank you for remembering Jim Gaydos and helping support Pancreatic Cancer research.
