Ashley Martin wrote -As most of you know, Rex was born with multiple heart defects and had one repaired when he was just 13 days old. Rex has two valves that are being monitored, but at his last cardiology appointment, we were told his heart is functioning well! He is only on one medication and leads a full, normal life, even going to preschool 4 half-days a week! Did you know that Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are the #1 birth defect? Or that 1 in every 100 babies is born with a CHD? We didn’t know that either. Kerrington's Heart is dedicated to the education, support, and encouragement of children with heart disease, their families and caregivers. This wonderful organization is not only based in Kentucky, but Kerrington attends Lyla's school! We are so fortunate to have such an amazing resource literally just up the road. Your participation and/or financial support will help Kerrington’s Heart better serve CHD children and families. Just some of the ways they supported us—visiting us before and after Rex’s surgery, giving us a “comfort bag” of snacks, hospital meal tickets, toiletries, etc as well as providing Rex with his very own Certificate of Bravery after his surgery. There are many other ways they support CHD families and ways they would LOVE to be able to serve if they only had the funds! Please consider walking or running in the Wild Hearts 5K/Kids 1K or simply donate* to Team Rex! On behalf of Rex, our family, and ALL those affected by CHD—THANK YOU!
