Looking back it's amazing how one simple decision can change your whole life...
When I decided to take up rowing as a college sophomore little did I know it would become such a huge part of my life. Rowing is a sport that sucks you in. People ask: why the early mornings? why so much training? why on the erg? why do rowers form such strong bonds? I'm not sure if my answers to these questions would truly provide any insight for those asking. Rowing is a sport that you need to experience! There is something extraordinary about being in a boat with other athletes striving for those perfect strokes when the boat runs smoothly through the water.
In a city made of bricks, Row New York provides young athletes the opportunity to experience the sport of rowing, a life changing experience. RNY offers multiple programs focused on helping their athletes develop not just on the water but in the classroom as well. Stressing the importance of classroom work as part of the team, RNY athletes balance their training with academic sessions.
"We help young people develop the skills, confidence and motivation to succeed, on and off the water. Row New York’s competitive team has medaled at the New York State Championship for the past four years, and in our 10-year history, 99% of the graduates of our year-round program have gone on to college, the majority on scholarship, and 90% have remained on track to earn a post-secondary degree."
