“Our mission is to help every kid in our community live as we would want our own kids to live.”
These words have inspired me to run my 4th consecutive Boston Marathon for a non-profit organization with a significant local impact. On April 15, I am running 26.2 miles as a member of the Rodman Ride for Kids team!
What is the Rodman Ride for Kids?
The Rodman Ride for Kids is an umbrella matching gift charity that raises funds for youth-focused social service agencies that support at-risk children in Massachusetts. Its 46 affiliated agencies are community-based, site-based, and residential.
- They offer opportunities to participate in sports, arts and music.
- They foster early literacy and help high school students with the college application process.
- They provide entertainment and respite for seriously ill children and their families.
- They help stop the cycle of homelessness.
- They provide quality schooling, tutoring, and educational support.
This is my first opportunity to personally raise money for the Ride. But my husband and I have supported its fundraising efforts for many years, both by sponsoring riders and attending one of its signature annual events, the Celebration for Kids. I really like the Ride’s collaborative fundraising model, which benefits smaller non-profits that aren’t able to stage their own large events. And as a parent of a 5-year-old, the Ride’s core mission to help children in our community resonates very strongly with me.
How can you help?
My fundraising goal for this year is $5,000. When you make a donation to support the Rodman Ride for Kids, you are benefitting almost 50 organizations that together, serve well over 100,000 children. Three of the agencies that are especially dear to our family are Birthday Wishes, Catholic Charities, and the YMCA. I encourage you to check this list of affiliated agencies; I am sure that you will see one or more that are just as dear to you!
Please consider making a donation per mile, such as $26.20 ($1/mile) or $131.00 ($5/mile). You can also make a flat rate donation; every amount, small or large, helps me to reach my goal. Most importantly, it helps children in our community. Thank you very much for your support!
