On Sunday, October 14, 2012 I'll be attempting my first half-marathon at the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K Event.
Several years ago I was fortunate enough to hear an awe-inspiring presentation by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn on their research and book, Half The Sky.
The Pulizer Prize winning Nicholas and Sheryl had traveled across the globe researching and writing to shed light on a terribly critical issue: "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide is a passionate call to arms against our era’s most pervasive human rights violation: the oppression of women and girls in the developing world. With Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn as our guides, we undertake an odyssey through Africa and Asia to meet with extraordinary women struggling there
Through these stories, Kristof and WuDunn help us see that the key to economic progress lies in unleashing women’s potential. They make clear how so many people have helped to do just that, and how we can each do our part."
