BENEFITING: RACING TO REGISTER
ORGANIZER: RACING TO REGISTER
EVENT: Marine Corps Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Oct 26, 2014
The 2014 Marine Corps Marathon will be my very first marathon, and I running it for Race to Register in honor of my grandmother Susie Mae Averhart Bennett. Grandma Bennett, as she was affectionately know by family and her community, was a strong, determined and caring woman. She always minimized her own troubles, including her battle with multiple myeloma, so that she could give of herself to others. Her illness, multiple myeloma, is a cancer of plasma cells that starts in the bone marrow, a type of white blood cell normally responsible for producing antibodies. In multiple myeloma, collections of abnormal plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow, where they interfere with the production of normal blood cells ultimately weakening the immune system.
Grandma Bennett continues to be an inspiration and role model for us through her legacy. By donating to this charity, you can also perpetuate her legacy by support this effort to get more people registered to become bone marrow donors.
