On May 5th, I am running the Broad Street Run -- a 10-mile race through Philadelphia -- as a member of the Racing to Register Team. Racing to Register (RTR) is a local, non-profit organization with a goal of raising awareness on the need to increase the number of potential marrow, stem cell and cord blood donors, using endurance sports as its platform.
I became aware of this organization through our good friends, Pam & Tom K. Ron & I have volunteered for the registry drive booth at various endurance sports events throughout the area. The Broad Street Run is another way to bring awareness to this important cause.
TEAM RTR will once again be participating in the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia, PA. This event draws over 30,000 runners and is the most popular 10 miler in the world. And for the first time in 30 years, entry is only via lottery. But, once again, Racing To Register is one of only a select few charities that were provided race entries to help further their mission.
TEAM RTR runners will help not only raise some needed funds so the charity can keep furthering its' mission, but they will also help to inspire others to join the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Each runner will also be responsible to find 5 people to join the Registry. With only 9 million people on the Bone Marrow Donor Registry, the chance of finding a match is very hard, in fact only 40% at most will find a suitable stem cell or marrow donor.
Every year we lose to many people that we have come to know and love because they do not find the proper donor. This year alone we have worked with 3 patients that did not survive. This is not acceptable!
Help each of these runners raise awareness, and funds, so that we can continue to make sure everyone has a chance at life!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. I have committed to raising $1,500 for RTR so any dollar amount is much appreciated! Please join me in supporting RTR's search for a match!
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate as well!
