"I don't run because I love the feeling of running. I run because it makes me love the feeling of living." Bonnie Pfiester
April 15, 2013 I will be running my first marathon. I am honored to have been chosen to represent the Samaritans in the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. Samaritans is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of suicide in Greater Boston and Metrowest. I couldn't be happier fulfilling a lifelong dream in support of such a tremendous organization.
This marathon comes 5 weeks prior to the 5th anniversary of my brother-in-law Georgie's death. Georgie had the biggest heart, a loving personality and was someone who never stopped giving. Since Georgie's passing our family has benefited from the Samaritans counseling and grief support. Last year a dear friend of ours Andrew Donovan ran in rememberance of Georgie for Team Samaritan. Andrew has been an inspiration to our family; he has helped us tremendously over the last few years. Just like Georgie did and the Samaritans are doing, Andrew keeps on giving. Running the Boston Marathon would give me the opportunity to do something for Georgie and also give back to The Samaritans organization for all they have done.
My husband and I have met so many people over the past few years whose lives have been affected by suicide. Every dollar donated helps keep others from feeling the way we did that spring day in 2008. The services provided can help save a life 24 hours a day 7 days a week. No matter how you decide to contribute, please know that your support will help ensure that Samaritans' confidential and anonymous befriending services remain available to the members of our community who are feeling lonely, desperate and suicidal.
