Xana is Running the Distance for Suicide Prevention!!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am proud to be a member of the 2013 Samaritans Marathon Team. Our team is raising awareness and funds for Samaritans, Inc, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of suicide in Greater Boston and Metrowest.
As a Boston area social worker, I am honored to work with wonderful resilient individuals and families. Many of these people have either lost a loved one to suicide or struggle with thoughts of suicide themselves. I feel strongly that, as a community, there is so much we can do to increase awareness about suicide prevention, decrease stigma about suicide, and rally around our our friends, family, and neighbors who are affected by suicide to let them know that they are not alone. Running the Boston Marathon for Samaritans is one way that I have chosen to participate in this important work. By supporting me in my 26.2 mile (yikes!) endeavor, you will be benefitting Samaritans' suicide prevention services including the organization's 24-hour crisis helplines, which answered over 125,000 calls last year; prevention services that provide hundreds of Community Education and Outreach workshops annually; and Grief Support Services that provide support to thousands for those who have lost a loved on to suicide. For more information about Samaritans life-saving programs, please visit our http://www.samaritanshope.org.
Please consider making a donation. Any dollar amount helps! You can dontate online through this page or feel free to give me a contribution directly and I will submit it on your behalf. Also, keep on the lookout for fundraising events that I will be hosting over the next few months!
No matter how you decide to contribute, please know that your support will help ensure that Samaritans' confidential and anonymous befriending services remain available to the members of our community who are feeling lonely, desperate and suicidal.
Thank you so much!
