Sarah has been diagnosed with a tumor on her optic nerve. She will have to undergo 8 six-week cycles of treatment, including surgery to get a port, oral medications, chemo treatments, multiple MRIs and check-ups. The effects of this treatment are mostly unknown at this time. She is a 5th grade student and will likely have to miss a good amount of school during this time. Sarah's mom/stepdad, dad/stepmom will be attending the treatments and appointments; as well as missing other work days when Sarah is having reactions to the medications. Sarah and her family will have to travel about 100 miles round trip for each appointment and treatment. While all Sarah's parents work right now, funds would be used to help with items to make Sarah more comfortable and help keep her spirits up, gas/car maintenance, out of pocket medical expenses, and other unexpected expenses that may arise.
