BENEFITING: Research Down Syndrome

We will be running a 25K in Michigan on August 24. We've been training hard, and now, we are asking your help.
This is important to us.
We've gotten to know so many great folks and their youngsters, teenagers, and adult children with Down syndrome. While social and medical advances assisting our friends have grown significantly over the last 40 years, it remains real that all persons with Down syndrome have mild to moderate intellectual disabilitiy and an increased likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease, as early as age 40.
But, there is encouraging news. Over the last 10 years, remarkable progress has been made in identifying potential drug treatments to assist learning and memory in people with Ds. Promising developments are pointing to a future where drug therapies will be available to improve communication skills, increase learning and academic opportunities, provide greater occupational options and promote more independent living. In fact, three clinical trials testing potential drugs are underway!
As exciting as this is, this research remains terribly underfunded, and we are doing our very small part to assist Research Down Syndrome advance this most important medical initiative.
Sue and Bob have been training hard, tasking themselves in order to promote a far more important task: developing effective drug treatments to assist many worldwide.
